Mary Lake Estates
Design of Landscape Development Plans
Natural Heritage Protection and Mitigation Strategy
King Township, Ontario
The Mary Lake Estates subdivision is adjacent to valley corridors and provincially significant wetlands providing habitat for various wetland and forest species. Beacon’s landscape architecture group was retained by Mattamy Homes to provide conceptual and detailed designs for the subdivision to help integrate the new development within the surrounding natural heritage landscape, and to mitigate some of the potential impacts of the new development on the adjacent natural features and their functions.
Beacon’s work included design of a gateway feature and community park, streetscapes, visual buffers and a 4 km long trail system. The trail system was designed to go through naturalized buffers and storm water management facilities, with naturalized areas incorporating specialized wildlife habitat features.
The design work was completed over 2016 and 2017. Approved landscape designs are being implemented are scheduled for completion in 2020.
