Aquatic Scientist – Full Time (Guelph)

Our aquatic scientists are growing experts in their field, bringing technical ecology and fluvial geomorphology support to every project to help support their teams’ and clients’ success.

We are seeking an early-career professional with interests in both aquatic ecology and fluvial geomorphology: an aspiring technical expert who thrives in the field and in helping bring the pieces of a project together. A team player with a keen eye for detail and an aptitude for problem-solving, to support various design and implementation, restoration, and monitoring projects.

  • Preferred three years of combined consulting experience in aquatic ecology and fluvial geomorphology, or equivalent industry experience;
  • Experience with provincial and federal environmental regulatory procedures (environmental impact assessments/studies, due diligence studies, habitat restoration) and applicable acts and regulations (Endangered Species Act, Conservation Authorities Act, Fisheries Act, Permit to take Water);
  • Experience with a variety of assessment, sampling, and monitoring techniques for both small and large aquatic systems;
  • Experience with topographic surveys, evaluations of channel stability and watercourse dimensions, data logger installation, and competence in the management of environmental data; and
  • Strong verbal and written communication with experience preparing technical reports.


Additional Bonus Variables (Not required, but good to have):

  • Headwater Drainage Feature Assessment training
  • Ontario Benthos Biomonitoring Network (OBBN) training
  • Ontario Stream Assessment Protocol Training (OSAP)
  • Graphics and GIS experience
  • Registered as a G.I.T. or eligible for membership with the Professional Geoscientists of Ontario
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD LDD/Civil 3D software
  • Working knowledge of Hydrological and/or hydraulic models (HEC-RAS)
  • Experience using RTK GPS technology and/or Total Station survey equipment
  • Certifications: CISEC, MNRF Electrofishing, and/or Pleasure Craft Operator
